چکیده

In wireless networks, hidden terminal problem is common and leads to collision which makes it difficult to provide the required quality of multimedia services or support priority based services. To overcome these problems a directional antennas have been extensively used in designing MAC protocols for wireless network. Directional antennas provide many advantages over the classical antennas. In this paper, we show that directional antennas can be used effectively to solve a common hidden and exposed terminal problem by using an energy efficient MAC protocol for wireless sensor networks. This directional Antenna could be rotated in case of base station node to avoid directional hidden terminal problem. Evaluation of a BIBD Based Directional MAC Protocol for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

The use of directional antennas in wireless ad hoc networks can significantly improve global performance due to a high spatial channel reuse. Nevertheless, its introduction poses new location dependent problems related to the MAC protocol. In this paper, the Balanced Incomplete Block Design theory has been exploited to develop a new MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc networks using directional ant...

Addressing deafness and hidden terminal problem in directional antenna based wireless multi-hop networks

We address deafness and directional hidden terminal problem that occur when MAC protocols are designed for directional antenna based wireless multi-hop networks. Deafness occurs when the transmitter fails to communicate to its intended receiver, because the receiver’s antenna is oriented in a different direction. The directional hidden terminal problem occurs when the transmitter fails to hear ...

DSDMAC Protocol for wireless multihop Ad Hoc Networks using Directional Antennas

Medium Access control(MAC) protocol is the most widely used protocol for Adhoc networks. However, in practice, deafness, hidden-terminal, and exposed terminal problems are exaggerated with directional antennas, and they cause the degradation of the overall network performance. Although there are several random-access-based medium-access control (MAC) protocols being proposed in the literature f...

Technical Issues and Challenges involve in designing a MAC protocol for Wireless Ad hoc Network

Wireless Ad hoc Networks have received significant attention in recent years due to their easiness to setup and their potential applications in many domains. Such networks can be useful in situations where there is not enough time or resource to configure a wired network. The shared media used by wireless networks, grant exclusive rights for a node to transmit a packet. Access to this media is ...

Deafness Resilient MAC Protocol for Directional Communications

It is known that wireless ad hoc networks employing omnidirectional communications suffer from poor network throughput due to inefficient spatial reuse. Although the use of directional communications is expected to provide significant improvements in this regard, the lack of efficient mechanisms to deal with deafness and hidden terminal problems makes it difficult to fully explore its benefits....
